The Parliament’s Monsoon session began this week on 18th July and will go on till 12th August 2022. The list of bills that will be tabled in this session were released on 15th July. Here are a few key bills that will be tabled in this session -
- The Anti-Maritime Piracy Bill, 2019 - Brings into law the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea, enables Indian authorities to act against piracy in the high seas, and makes acts of piracy punishable with life imprisonment or death.
- The Development of Enterprises and Services Hubs (DESH) Bill, 2022 - Revises the Special Economic Zones Act and frame Rules accordingly
- The Geographical Indications of Goods (Registration and Protection) (Amendment) Bill, 2022 - Seeks to simplify procedures and increase accessibility to stakeholders.
- The Warehousing (Development and Regulation) (Amendment) Bill, 2022 - Provides for strengthening of the Warehousing Development and Regulatory Authority, storage of farmers’ produce in scientific warehouse godowns, and seeks to encourage scientific warehousing
ecosystems in the country.
- The Competition (Amendment) Bill, 2022 - Changes the governing structure of the Competition Commission of India, and proposes amendments to address the needs of new age markets.
- The Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (Amendment) Bill, 2022 - Amends the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code, 2016 to introduce provisions on cross-border insolvency, and changes the corporate insolvency resolution process and liquidation process.
- The Forest (Conservation) Amendment Bill, 2022 - Amends the Forest (Conservation) Act, 1980 to clarify the applicability of the Act across different types of lands, and streamline the approval process under the Act.
- The Mines and Mineral (Development and Regulation) Amendment Bill, 2022 - Amends the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Act, 1957 to bring in policy reforms and improve ease of doing business.

- The Indian Antarctic Bill, 2022 - Seeks to give effect to the Antarctic Treaty, the Convention on the Conservation of Antarctic Marine Living Resources, and the Protocol on Environmental Protection to the Antarctic Treaty. Also seeks to protect the Antarctic environment and regulate activities in the region.
